Course DescriptioN
The 75-kilometer course offers a full tour of Antelope Island, combining runnable shoreline trails, rugged backcountry terrain, and a defining climb to the island’s high point atop Frary Peak. With wide-open views of the Great Salt Lake and frequent wildlife sightings, this course captures the essence of running on the island.
The race begins at the Marina, where runners head out on the Mountain View Trail for the opening 6 miles. This smooth, runnable section allows the field to spread out early before reaching the first aid station at Lower Frary (mile 6.1).
From there, the course turns onto the Frary Peak Trail for the race’s most demanding segment. Runners climb steadily to the summit of Frary Peak before returning to Lower Frary (mile 14.1). This 8-mile out-and-back includes roughly 4,400 feet of elevation change and serves as the crux of the race.
After descending, runners continue on Mountain View for 5.7 miles of rolling terrain to the Fielding Garr Ranch aid station (mile 19.75). From here, the course transitions onto the South Island Trail and into the Sentry Loop, winding through quieter and more remote sections of the island.
The route then moves onto the Buffalo Scaffold (West Side Trail) for a 5.6-mile stretch along the island’s western edge. This section is more rugged and exposed, with loose footing, short climbs, and expansive views across the lake. Wildlife sightings are common here, particularly bison and pronghorn in the grasslands below.
At the Split Rock junction, runners turn left onto the Split Rock Loop for 2.6 miles of rolling, exposed terrain that can feel deceptively demanding late in the race.
At the Elephant Head junction, runners reach the aid station at mile 31.5 before heading out on a 2.8-mile out-and-back to one of the course’s most scenic viewpoints. The trail narrows along a ridgeline with sweeping views of the Great Salt Lake before returning to the Elephant Head aid station again at mile 34.4.
From there, the course connects to the White Rock Loop. Runners pass through the White Rock aid station (mile 39.75) before continuing along smoother, more runnable shoreline terrain toward Bridger Bay.
The Lakeside Loop around Bridger Bay (mile 43.2) offers one of the fastest sections of the course, with wide-open views, reflective water, and frequent birdlife. A short out-and-back leads to the Bridger Bay aid station before continuing along the shoreline.
In the final stretch, runners leave the Lakeside Loop for a brief segment on Buffalo Point Road and Headquarters Road, then follow the fence line trail back to Mountain View for approximately 1.3 miles.
Once back on Mountain View, it’s just 1.2 miles to the finish at the Marina, completing a full tour of the island’s peaks, ridgelines, and shoreline.
