2025 Runners Guide Coming Soon
sections: the “Mid Mountain” traverse, the “Great Western-Mormon Pioneer” loop, and “Reverse Flying Dog”. The race begins with a half mile of flat to rolling singletrack terrain before a steady, 4-mile climb up to the Mid Mountain trail section.
For the next 14 miles, you will stay on variations of this trail hovering around 8,000 feet above sea level crossing the Park City area ski resorts. The first half of this section is essentially a gradual descent and the second half of this section includes your second sustained climb on the course followed by a sharper, but still flowy, long descent. Around mile 18.6 you will continue the aforementioned progressive descent from the mid-mountain section into Pinebrook neighborhood trails. Approximately 5 miles later, you will arrive at Pinebrook Blvd for the beginning of a 2-mile road stretch to the fork at Jeremy Ranch Road.
About a tenth of a mile before the fork at Jeremy Ranch Road, you will see flags for the Moose Hollow trail. Go past this to check in with the aid station (mandatory) and then double back to this trail. This is the beginning of the “Great Western-Mormon Pioneer” loop. After a steady, 1,500-foot 3-mile climb away from the ranch, you will hop on the Great Western Trail, which you will ride for 7.25 miles. This section is both beautiful and challenging. At times, you’ll have 360 views of the Central Wasatch Range, but you’ll also be at a relatively high elevation and the climbs and descents are frequent and punchy - it will be hard to get in flow here.
At the end of this section, you’ll arrive at Big Mountain Pass. There will be an aid station here to resupply before you turn right onto the Mormon Pioneer trail for 4.5 miles of descending to the flat on Jeremy Ranch Road. The next section on Jeremy Ranch Road includes about 4 miles of extremely gradual climbing - about 200 feet before reaching the fork that you left at the beginning of the loop. On paper, this section looks easy but don’t discount it! You’ll likely be running through it during the heat of the day and it’s quite exposed out there.
After returning to the fork at Jeremy Ranch, you're about 75% of the way through with just over 14 miles to go. The next section represents the last long and sustained climbing on the course. Between the 24/7 and Flying Dog trails, you will climb approximately 1,500 feet in 5 miles to reach the top of the dog.
From the top of Flying Dog, you will descend 5 miles on Flying Dog, Cobblestone, and Glenwild trails before a relatively short and punchy 500-foot, 1.5-mile climb on the last section of Glenwild. From here, you will turn left onto the Blackhawk trail for a short and switchbacked descent to the Spring Creek trailhead.
Finally, a quarter-mile of pavement takes you to the finish: duck under I-80 via a pedestrian tunnel, and along the path to the finish line at Newpark Amphitheater, where you'll be greeted with music, food, and drink.
An award ceremony will follow the race and recognize the top three overall male and female finishers. Awards will also be given for the King and Queen of the Mountain as well as the male and female Sprint Champions.
Bonus awards will be announced during the ceremony.
